At the grocery store today, there was an older woman in line in front of me. She took her time unloading her groceries onto the conveyer, then had difficulty paying, and finally struggled to load up her basket on her walker.
For this entire event, the cashier watched, scanned the groceries, pressed the buttons, and even smiled a little, but I could tell that she was frustrated by the lady's slowness and lack of comprehension.
Meanwhile, a bagger came up and saw the lady's need for assistance and reassurance, and provided her with just that. He helped her pay, load her groceries, and walk out to her car. And he made it obvious that he was happy to help. He met the lady where she was and helped her to where she needed to be, unlike the cashier who stayed (metaphorically) where the lady was trying to get to, rather than helping her get there.
Jesus came and walked with us so that we could get to heaven, and he still is walking with us as the Spirit. And we must, in the same way, walk with others to guide them to Jesus, His love, and His kingdom.
