You know those sayings, "How are you?" "Nice to see you," and "What's up?" Most of the time they we aren't literal in our use, but they mostly act as a formality and greeting. What's the point then? Why not just say "hello"?
I think it's important that to stand out as Christians, we must do more than just ask "how are you?"; we must care about the response. That means stopping to talk rather than walking past, and putting down the Iphone and having a conversation. That action to put someone (not yourself!) in the spotlight is an expression of love, and I believe that every time God checks in with us, he devotes his focus to us and desires ours as well.
