September 21: Scared of Help

It's amazing how children can be so terrified of someone trying to help them. Nearly every child under age 5 (and plenty older than that) hate the doctor. The doctor is often equivalent to shots, finger pricks, and blood draws even though it is rarely the doctor doing these things. Nevertheless, children are scared of the doctor even though he (or she) is trying so hard to help them.

I think sometimes people can be scared of the life-doctor. God can be associated with all events--good and bad--miracles and celebrations, but also sickness, worry, and death--the "Yea God!" and the "Why me?" Though God, through Jesus, is our healer, he is also in charge of discipline, but all for the reason of expressing his love for us and taking care of us. Good and bad may happen, and though both may occur in God's presence, we must trust that he is there during the bad because he's there to make it better.
